“Things that cause people to stumble are bound to come, but woe to anyone through whom they come. 2 It would be better for them to be thrown into the sea with a millstone tied around their neck than to cause one of these little ones to stumble. 3 So watch yourselves. These verses have scared me for years. (I work with kids, and these verses scare me when I get it wrong.) I guess the thing is to do our best loving them - and disciplining them where necessary. I guess it's better to go for it and sometimes get it a bit wrong rather than fail completely by doing nothing. What do you think?

@Isabel I think it was Simon Ponsonbury who said that "God would rather we did the wrong thing for the right reason, than the right thing for the wrong reason." (I think that was him, anyway) If you're doing your best (which it most definitely sounds like you are), then it wouldn't be in the spirit of God to punish you for a mistake. I think that what he is saying, is that those whom deliberately "lead" people astray are those that deserved to be punished. Anyway, that's what I think, and sorry if that wasn't Simon's quote :D

Thanks so much for that encouragement. It was also really helpful for me to write it as it made me think it through and it helped me re-realise I need to get better at making mistakes if that makes sense - yes to be careful in the important things but to just go for it a whole lot more. Thanks again.

Yes - that was really helpful, thanks. Honestly, those verses stopped me from working with children at one time because they scared me because I misunderstood them: I need to know God's heart and not worry.

Thank you so much whoever it was who prayed for me. Before I thought "How the heck do I know God's heart?" then I was looking for something in my room and I "happened" to find a whole load of verses that I'd printed about God's character / heart! I'm feeling really loved.
